Supply Shortage: Cardinal Enteral Feeding Pump Sets

Superior HealthPlan has been notified of significant delays and a backlog in manufacturing for the Cardinal Health KangarooTM ePump and Joey Enteral Feeding Pump sets. Due to the supply shortage of these enteral feeding pump sets, prior authorization to rent or purchase Cardinal Enteral Pumps will be denied for Superior Medicaid (STAR, STAR Health, STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS), CHIP and STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid Plan (MMP).

Providers with an active authorization for a Cardinal Enteral Pump will need to submit a new authorization for a different enteral pump, and make note that the request is due to the Cardinal backorder.

The Cardinal Enteral Feeding Pump sets are not compatible with other enteral feeding pump sets. To ensure members will have the continuity of care and supplies they need, this important change was deemed necessary.

Providers may begin to see an increase in calls from Superior’s Prior Authorization department to confirm the style of pump being provided to Superior members. To prevent processing delays, providers should include the description and brand of the pump they are requesting.
