Superior HealthPlan Earns Four Stars from NCQA

Date: 09/27/17

Superior HealthPlan (Superior) is once again the top-rated Medicaid plan in Texas. Superior received one of the highest ratings from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), earning a score of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale on the NCQA’s Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2017-2018. Superior received the same score for 2016-2017.

“Our primary goal as a company is to provide our members with the best health care possible so that they can receive the services they need to get well and stay well,” said Dr. David Harmon, Chief Medical Director at Superior. “This score from the NCQA is a prime example of the standard of care we aim to provide as well as our steadfast commitment to offering consistent, quality care every day.”

Ratings are calculated based on Health Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) scores, Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) scores and NCQA Accreditation standard scores. The NCQA health insurance plan rating system is considered one of the most comprehensive evaluations in the health-care industry.

The ratings are broken down into three primary categories as well as several sub-categories. Superior earned a 5.0 out of 5.0 in several of those, including customer service, adolescent well-care visits and immunizations, and follow-up care after hospitalizations for mental illness. In total, Superior earned a score of 4.0 or higher out of 5.0 in 19 specific measures.

“It takes a collaborative effort between our employees and providers across Texas to make sure our members are getting the services that meet their needs,” said Susan Mills, Superior’s Vice President of Quality Improvement. “We are proud of this recognition from NCQA and will continue to do what it takes to offer quality healthcare to the people who need it most.”
