Sleep Health – Why It Matters
Date: 01/27/26
Around 1 in 3 adults, and even more teens, don’t get enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep can lead to health problems like obesity, diabetes or heart disease. We’ve gathered a few tips to help you get a good night’s rest and how it can benefit your health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adults 18 – 60 years old need 7 or more hours of sleep, and teens need even more than that! Teens need to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
A few ways you can get yourself into a healthy sleep routine are:
- Going to bed and getting up at the same time every day.
- Turn off your electronic devices like your phone or TV at least 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
- Don’t have large meals or alcohol right before bedtime.
- Avoid caffeinated beverages like coffee or sodas in the afternoons and at night.
- Get enough exercise. You should get at least 30 minutes of exercise per day, 5 days a week.
Consistently getting a good night’s sleep can have several benefits for your daily health. These include:
- Improved memory and focus.
- Better mood and mental health
- A stronger immune system.
- Increased energy and feeling awake during the day.
