How to Prescribe Incontinence Supplies without PA

Date: 04/26/16

As a reminder, providers have the option to prescribe incontinence supplies without obtaining prior authorization from Superior for payment. To do so, the incontinence supplies must be dispensed through Superior’s preferred Durable Medical Equipment (DME) supplier, J&B Medical Supplies. This preferred DME program will help reduce administrative paperwork and, most importantly, improve delivery timeframes for incontinence supplies.

This option applies to all Superior programs including:

  • STAR/CHIP
  • STAR+PLUS
  • STAR Health (Foster Care)

Providers and members may choose any provider that is contracted with Superior to dispense incontinence supplies.

The waiver of authorization will only apply when ordering incontinence supplies through Superior’s preferred DME supplier. The prior authorization requirement will remain in effect for incontinence supplies whenever a non-preferred DME provider is used.

Additionally, all requests that exceed the basic Medicaid benefit for incontinence supplies require authorization even when using the preferred DME provider.

Please note: All approved and authorized durable medical equipment/medical supplies must be delivered within 14 days and within 5 days, respectively, of the approved date. Providers unable to deliver approved and authorized durable medical equipment/medical supplies within established timeframes must provide Superior an H2067 form advising of the delay.
