Early Detection Saves Lives: Get Your Breast Screening!

Date: 10/20/25

Breast cancer is caused by abnormal cells that grow in your breast. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in women in America. Getting a screening is the best way to detect breast cancer early and makes treatment more effective.

Some doctors recommend doing exams on yourself at home. According to Breastcancer.org if you see any of the following changes in your breasts, you should call your healthcare provider:

  1. Dimpling, puckering or bulging of the skin.
  2. A nipple that has changed position or that has pushed inward instead of sticking out.
  3. Redness, soreness or rashes.

A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast that you can have done through your healthcare provider. It is the most common form of screening for breast cancer.  Mammograms can find cancer before it is even big enough to feel in your breast or cause symptoms. The American Cancer Society recommends that women ages 45 to 54 get a mammogram every year.

Superior HealthPlan members can get a breast screening at no cost. Call your provider to schedule your annual screening today!
