Flu Vaccine Availability for 2019-2020 Season

Flu vaccinations are available to all Superior HealthPlan members. There are over 3,800 participating pharmacies in Superior’s network across Texas that will be able to administer the flu vaccine. Please review the information below regarding vaccine availability for 2019-2020 season.

Medicaid Members

Beginning October 1, 2019, the flu vaccination will be available for CHIP and Medicaid (STAR, STAR Health, STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS) members. Members who are 7 years old and up will have the option to obtain their influenza vaccine at a Superior participating pharmacy in addition to their participating medical provider. Medicaid and CHIP members younger than 7 years old will need to continue to receive the vaccination directly from their participating medical provider.

The Texas Vendor Drug Program provided guidance that flu vaccine coverage is for any 2019-2020 flu-season, Centers for Disease Control (CDC)-recommended product. Pharmacists should apply clinical judgement and refer to CDC guidance when selecting a flu vaccine for a Superior member.

Marketplace, Medicare and Medicare-Medicaid Members

For Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan (Marketplace), Allwell from Superior HealthPlan (Medicare) and STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid Plan (MMP) members, the flu vaccination must be provided by a participating pharmacy or medical provider licensed to administer the vaccine. Ambetter members younger than 7 years old will need to obtain the flu shot directly from their medical provider. Please refer to your respective formulary for covered vaccine products for the season.
