About Texas Health Steps:
The Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) service is Medicaid’s comprehensive preventive child health service (medical, dental and case management) for children from birth through 20 years of age. In Texas, EPSDT is known as the Texas Health Steps (THSteps) Program.
Texas Health Steps are free for children with Medicaid from birth through 20 years of age. Children also get free vaccines at the checkup to stay healthy.
These checkups are important even if your child is not sick. Children age 3 and older need a Texas Health Steps checkup each year. Babies need these checkups more often.
During a Texas Health Step checkup, the doctor will look at your child from head to toe, checking for health problems you may not know about. The doctor will also see if your child is growing and developing like other children their age. These checkups can help catch health problems before they get worse and are harder to treat.
