Do you know when you should use the emergency room? If you are not sure, you can call your doctor or NurseWise at 1-866-912-6283 and choose option 7. NurseWise is Superior’s 24-hour nurse line. NurseWise can give you medical advice over the phone.

Here are reasons you do not need to go to the emergency room:

A cough or cold

Diarrhea

A cut or scrape

Mild headaches

Lice, scabies or ringworm

If your life is in danger, go to the emergency room right away or dial 911. Use the emergency room if you have any of these problems:

Chest pains or other severe pain

Fainting/unconsciousness

You are in labor

Broken bones

Drug overdose

Poisoning

Seizures

Call your doctor when you get to the emergency room and are able to do so. If you can’t reach your doctor or you want to talk to someone about a health problem that you’re having, you can call NurseWise at 1-866-912-6283 and choose option 7.
NurseWise has nurses ready to talk to you when you can’t reach your doctor. All of our nurses speak English and Spanish. They can answer your questions and help you. For example, if your child has a fever, cough or cold symptoms, you can call NurseWise for help deciding what to do.
Emergency rooms are open 24 hours a day. They will help the sickest or the most hurt people first. To avoid waiting a long time, call Superior’s Member Services hot line and ask for a list of night clinics or urgent care facilities in your area. Your child can be seen by a doctor at night clinics or urgent care facilities without having to change your primary care provider or waiting a long time in the emergency room.

If you are not sure if you have a true emergency, call your doctor or NurseWise. They can tell you what you need to do. Your doctor or NurseWise will help you decide if you have a true emergency.
